The Rev. Dr. Karĩmi Mũmbũi is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. He holds a Diploma in Water Technology from the Kenya Water Institute, Nairobi, Bachelor of Divinity degree from St. Paul’s University, Limuru, Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Oral Roberts University.
Book: Infant Baptism Demystifying The Sacrament
The book delineates the place of baptism as not so much about water but the covenant between God and His created order. It reveals its meaning, significance, and development from the Old covenant as espoused in God’s instructions to Abraham in Gen. 17. In this, all males were to be circumcised from the eighth day going forth. Borrowing from that, it means therefore that God requires all of His children to undergo the rite as a means of covenantal entry.
The author explains that in upholding the place of the covenant, Jesus unveiled a new mark of entry that unlike the old, is not confined to the Jews, not gender-sensitive, and one that does not necessarily deal with a physical mark as opposed to a spiritual significance and change.
The book deals with the concept of the sufficiency of God’s grace and the call of Peter on the day of Pentecost to the congregation to repent and be baptized, and qualifying the call as meant “for you and children”, which rhymes with the old covenant that commenced at 8 days.
Most importantly, the book unravels the place of water in baptism, the validity and reason why it should not be repeated, and the mode of baptism explaining the often confusing issue of the amount of water; sprinkling, affusion, or immersion. In short, it allows all to make informed decisions about the New Covenant as received through baptism.
